Maria Stynes

Maria Stynes was a participant in the NFTE Programme in 2007/2008 at Caritas College, Ballyfermot. Maria set up "Wrist Aid" during the NFTE programme and joined NFTE's  Alumni to learn more about developing her business.

"Myself and my partner Laura set up a jewellery making company called Wrist Aid, where we sold a range of colourful plastic customised wrist straps to friends in school and family. Our business did really well in the NFTE All Ireland Business Plan Competition; we decided that we would donate some of our products to young patients in Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital, where we also demonstrated to some of the patients how we made the products. We were awarded 1st place in the Social Enterprise Award during the NFTE Youth Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony in 2008.

Through my experience of NFTE, I have learnt that I am good with people and that interaction with others is very important for any good business. As a member of the Alumni, I learned that there are many places around Dublin that provide help and support to you and your business.

NFTE has encouraged me to continue my education and to go on to a 3rd level college. My future plans are to study Nursing or Social Studies in Trinity College. I know I can achieve this if I work my hardest to achieve the highest amount of points needed for my course. I have learnt lots about myself too; I know that if I put my mind to something worthwhile, I can achieve more than I expected."
